Digital Connections
Q. What's the deal with digital connections.

A digital output is used to pump a pure digital signal with its 5.1 discrete audio channels from your DVD player to your AV-receiver processor that has Dolby Digital or DTS processing on board. It bypasses all DVD player processing.

There are two connection options - coaxial and optical. Coaxial is a circular connector and socket system that looks like an RCA connector, but usually has an orange coloured sleeve on the product end. A coaxial output looks like a regular phono-type connector, but it has an orange-coloured ring.

An optical output uses a black optical glass lead for transfer terminated by square plug interfaces that plug into square receptacles on the AV-receiver (usually stoppered up). It's a simple, high quality audio connection system which most people prefer.
