Reviewer: Richard Morgan
This system proves that it doesn't cost a fortune to own a home theatre system that captures the power and potential of DVD. In fact, there's really no visual or aural hint that the F- Series is an entry-level product.
As well as being tonally matched, all the F-Series models are magnetically shielded to prevent interference with other electronic equipment. They are also technologically advanced and highly competent and use good components in all areas.
For example, the crossover networks are well engineered to minimise the adverse effects of phase errors and other anomalies that often negatively affect quality.
The tweeter is the same in all models and is a 19mm diameter ferrofluid-cooled unit for improved power handling capability and sonic smoothness, and has a fabric dome that is protected by discreet horizontal fins.
The midrange/bass unit is a 130mm diameter driver with a coated paper diaphragm. It's long-throw design engineered for fast action and good bass extension, particularly for the class of product.
The large connection terminals are gold plated for reliably clean signal transmission. The main speakers are also bi-wiring or bi-amplification capable.
The cabinets are made from MDF and have contoured edges to help reduce diffraction effects that can adversely affect sound. The speakers are available in black ash and light cherry finishes.
The floor standing model F3 features up front, the shelf mount F1 brings up the rear and the matching F Centre occupies centre stage. The speakers in the system are very well matched, both visually and sonically.
Performance-wise you wouldn't know that they are budget models. Sure, more expensive systems do some things better, but that's why they cost more. So judge this system on its merits and relative to prove and its outstanding value
for money.
The sonics are quite smooth and well balanced and there's going to be enough of a sense of dynamic interplay to satisfy most people. Distortion is surprisingly low for the class of product too.
This is a great looking low cost home theatre speaker system that within a competitive area of the market performs extremely well - a terrific entrance into surround sound in fact. Don't skimp of the amplification or source products and you'll be well satisfied.
